Dear Medical Student, 

 

Welcome to the wonderful world of AMSA. My name is Jasmine (she/her) and I am your AMSA President for 2022. I am also a medical student studying the MD/MPH at Melbourne University. 

 

I’m assuming you are here because you are interested in getting involved volunteering with us in 2022. Whether you’re a current AMSA volunteer, or you are in the process of learning what AMSA is, we hope you find something here that interests you. 

 

I first got involved with AMSA attending the Global Health Conference in 2018. Since then I’ve been lucky enough to be part of teams in Global Health, Rural Health, Convention and now am overseeing our Mental Health, Gender Equity, Queer and Vampire Cup groups in my role as National Projects Officer. 

 

Throughout my time in AMSA I have learned so many new skills, in event planning, advocacy, social media, writing policy and so much more. Alongside this, AMSA has provided me with an entire new community of friends and colleagues, from all corners of Australia, from whom I have learned so much. Whatever your goals or interests are, I can almost guarantee there is something in these callouts for you. 

 

In my time at AMSA I am continuously surprised and amazed by the incredible work that is being done by the diverse groups that sit under the umbrella of AMSA. There are so many opportunities and positions for you to get involved, and I want to emphasise that if something interests you, please apply! AMSA always strives to create supportive and safe environments to learn and try new things, but also to provide experiences that are perfectly feasible alongside your medical degree.

 

When I first applied for a position in AMSA in 2018, I never would have thought I’d end up here. That’s part of the brilliance in AMSA - there is so much room to grow and develop, and you never know where this organisation will lead you.
